The history of the UAP Qatar Chapter is rooted in the dedication and vision of pioneering Filipino architects in Doha. Its formation brought together 21 architect petitioner signatories, with 20 of them proudly belonging to the first batch of SPLBE passers. Their commitment marked an important milestone in uniting Filipino professionals abroad under the banner of the United Architects of the Philippines.
Tracing back to January 27, 2007, the journey began when Architect Isaias “Jhin” Tabuzo arrived in Doha. Like many OFWs, he faced isolation and homesickness, but instead of allowing the challenges to weigh him down, he sought to connect with fellow Filipino architects. Discovering the absence of a UAP chapter in Qatar, he was determined to establish one.
This determination led to the creation of the United Filipino Architects of Qatar (UFAQ)—a community inclusive of both licensed and non-licensed practitioners. Despite mixed reactions of praise and criticism, Jhin’s initiative gained strong support and culminated in a successful general meeting that laid the foundation for what would later become the UAP Qatar Chapter, the 127th chapter of UAP.
What began as one architect’s vision has since flourished into a vibrant community, marked by unity, collaboration, and continuous progress. Today, the UAP Qatar Chapter stands as the proud voice of Overseas Filipino Architects in Doha, carrying forward its mission with purpose and pride.
