September 6, 2024 - Excitement filled the air as over 12 energetic Filipino professional groups based in Qatar came together at The Hamilton International School Doha for the opening ceremony of the highly-anticipated PPOQ Sports Fest 2024.
The festivities kicked off with a vibrant parade showcasing the participating teams in their dynamic uniforms and jerseys, gearing up for three months of action-packed tournaments. PPOQ Sportsfest Chairman Engr. Charles Canonizado extended a warm welcome to the teams, while PPOQ Chairman Engr. Teofilo Tongsion Jr. officially opened the program. Philippine Ambassador to Qatar HE Lilibeth V. Pono also graced the event and shared an inspiring message.
The crowd was ecstatic as they participated in a Zumba performance and thrilling competitions, which were among the PPOQ opening ceremony highlights. United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Qatar Chapter bagged 2nd place in Best in Team Uniform; with PICE Qatar (1st place) and PICPA (3rd place). Best in Basketball Uniform was awarded to FILRAQ (1st place), PIIEE-SQC (2nd place), and NAMPAP-Q (3rd place). Best in Cheering went to AFE-Q (1st place), PIChE (2nd place), and PICPA (3rd place). The Best Muse was from IECEP-Q, with FILRAQ (2nd place), PIChE (3rd place), PICPA (4th place), and AFE-Q (5th place). UAP Qatar Chapter was represented by muse, Arch. Shaira Navarro.
Also joining the competitions are teams PSMEQ, PNAQ, and more others. The organizations will battle in basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, chess, scrabble, bowling, dart, table tennis, billiards, mobile legends, fun run, and cycling (for a cause).
Final match results will be announced during the closing ceremony in November.
